Ethyl Acetate

Ethyl Acetate refers to a chemical that is a majorly used as a solvent, specially for paints, lacquers, varnishes, cleaning mixtures, and perfumes. It is used for decaffeinating coffee beans as a solvent. It is a commonly used solvent for column and thin-layer chromatography. It occurs naturally in fruits, where it is responsible for the pleasant odour and taste of the fruit. Ethyl Acetate is also found in yeasts and sugar cane. The compound is made synthetically by reacting acetic acid with ethanol in the presence of a sulfuric catalyst.
